Yangzhou
Brief Introduction

Yangzhou, on the nother bank of Yangtse river, emgered during the Spring and Autumn period (770-476 b.c.) when Fu Chai,King of the Wu state, built his defence system, eventually it grew into a large, population city. Emperor Yangdi of the Sui Dynasty ( 581-618) visited prosititutes here; emperors Huizong and Gaozong of the Song Dynasty (960-1279) built their temporary palaces here, and Qing emperor qianlong visited six times.
The city itself is a museum of Chinese culture and beautiful Chinese gardens. Small and quite as it is, you have an easy access to all latest modern convenience here, too, while enjoying traditional heritage. Through all the ages, men of letters have lavishly praised Yangzhou in prose and poetry, pouring their love and yearning for this city in the most beautiful language. This is the only city in china that receives such an honour and it deserves, too.
Weather and Climate
Yangzhou features a humid climate and its annual average temperature is 15°c. in july, the average temperature is 27.6°c. the coldest month is january, with an average temperature of 1.5°c.
The annual average precipitation is 1,030 mm, and about 45 percent of rainfall is concentrated in the summer. the rainy season known as "plum rain season" usually lasts from mid-June to late July. during this season, the plums are ripening, hence the name plum rain.
Transportation
Coming and going: Yangzhou is not connected by rail, but it is easily accessible.
A bus Journey from Shanghai takes about 3.5 hours; from Suzhou, about 2.5 hours, from Nanjing about 1 hour.
city transport is convenient, for most public buses run from 06:00 to 18:00. taxis are cheap: starting price of rmb5 or 6. if you go into Yangzhou from Shanghai or Suzhou, you will pass the 3,740-metre-long Jiangyin Changjiao Daqiao, the longest bridge over the Yangzi River in China.

Food
Yangzhou cuisine represents food of Yangzhou, Huai'an and Zhenjiang, which is important in both Jiangsu and Zhejiang province and one of the four best known in China. it emerged in the Sui Dynasty (581-618) and has a history spanning 1,200 years.
Besides abd emphasis on broth, Huaiyang dishes feature high-quality ingredients and meticulous preparation, with care taken to maintain the freshness and authentic flavours of the food. Dishes incorporating freshwater-food and meats cooked in huaiyang style are eminent. Huaiyang dishes are delicately braised, stewed or soasted and the most famous include stewed pork ball, stewed fish head, shredded pork in chicken soup, steamed hilsa herring, stewed pig's feet, etc.

Tourist Attractions
Although Yangzhou is a relatively less known city to foreign travelers, the city pleasantly surprises foreign visitors. Its most famous attraction, Shouxi lake offer stuningly natural beauty which can compared with that of the well-known west lake in Hangzhou. the daming temple where a popular Chinese TV series was filmed can well merit a few hours. some gardens and other ancient architecture are also interesting to see.
