Day 2Beijing
Bird's Nest

Bird's Nest

Dive deep into Chinese history at your first destination, Ming Tombs. We will pick you up at your hotel between 7 am and 8:30 am then drive about 50 minutes from downtown Beijing to the site. The 13 tombs dating back to the Ming Dynasty are the best preserved Chinese imperial tombs that boast more than half a century of history. Changling Tomb, the one we will visit today is the largest and most impressive of the tombs where Emperor Yongle, the first emperor of Beijing, and his Empress Xu were buried in the year 1413 early in the Ming Dynasty. We will spend about 1 hour in total at this site. Before lunchtime, you will visit a Jade Carving Factory. Jade has long been one of China's most impressive national arts and products include decorations to jewelry. A master will show you some techniques and afterwards you can purchase some memories of your own. Followed is the Badaling Great Wall . It is one of the most popular parts of the immense Great Wall since it was the first opened to the public. We will spend about 2 hours here walking and admiring the views and constructions. A cable car ride can also be taken up and down the Badaling Great Wall as you wish. In the later afternoon, you will be taken back to the center of Beijing where the Olympic complex awaits. You will get to see TV-famous images such as the Bird's Nest and Water Cube venues though we will not enter. Finally, pay a visit to a silk factory where you can see and learn about the ancient art of Chinese silk. Drop you back off at your hotel by 6pm.

Day 3Beijing

In the morning we will pick you up at your hotel and transfer you to Tiananmen Square, the largest of its kind in the world and the site of countless key historic events that have taken place in China throughout the ages. Your guide will lead you through the Gate of Heavenly Peace and into the Forbidden City afterwards. The Forbidden City was the home to no less than 24 emperors throughout China's past during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Just before lunch, enjoy a stop at a pearl market where you can learn about the art of pearl processing and do a bit of shopping of your own. Then make a short stop at a venue where you will be able to learn about the philosophies and methods of traditional Chinese and Eastern medicine. The theories are strongly rooted and connected with Chinese culture, thus this visit provides you with additional insight into a local's world. Later comes another well known place in Beijing - the Temple of Heaven. Built in the year 1420 in the early Ming Dynasty, it is the largest ancient imperial worship architecture complex in the world. Emperors once prayed here and citizens continue to do so to this day. You will be able to enjoy the temple and its surroundings for about 1 hour before proceeding. Last on your itinerary today is the Summer Palace. Not really a palace in the Western sense of the word, the Summer Palace is actually a tranquil nature and garden area. It is the largest and best preserved imperial garden in China and an iconic part of the city of Beijing. With its grounds consisting also of a lake, the views here are spectacular indeed. Your visit will be about 1 hour 20 minutes.
