Oriental Pearl TV Tower in Shanghai
In exploring Shanghai, your first stop will be Yuyuan Garden found in the city's old quarters. Built in the Ming Dynasty, this garden was once a private retreat but now attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors every year. The elements found here are typical of classic Chinese gardens, making it very beautiful to walk though and enjoy. Nearby is a busy marketplace where you can buy some small snacks and souvenirs and watch the local people go by.
Then head to the Bund with your guide. The Bund is one of Shanghai's most popular social areas. The 52 European style buildings here shine uniquely in the city's skyline, and set against the glistening Huangpu River, it makes for a great scene day or night. You will find many top restaurants, boutiques, hotels, and more along this riverside walkway. It is 1.5 kilometers in total and a fine place for a walk with a loved one.
After a fine meal at a local restaurant, go across the river to the Oriental Pearl TV Tower which is one of the tallest in the world. Like the Bund, it is striking to the eye but because this tower has two immense spheres one on top of the other. The Shanghai History Museum is at the first floor of the tower where you can learn a bit about the city's history, focused more on the modern and revolutionary eras.

Beijing is one of the oldest establishments in China though it wasn't always the capital through the ages. The Temple of Heaven is another ancient site not to be missed, built in the year 1420 in the Ming Dynasty and an important construction for Taoism. The emperors of the Ming and Qing Dynasties used to visit every year to pray for an abundant harvest and more. The temple’s complex spreads over an impressive 273 hectares and was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1998.
Then of course, it will be time to visit the Great Wall. There are many parts of the Great Wall that crosses through China, but we will visit the Mutianyu Great Wall which is not as crowded as some other parts. Taking a trip of about 2.5 hours from Beijing center, you will reach this section and take a cable car up to the top where you will be presented with breathtaking views of the ancient landscape as well as the human engineering marvel beneath your feet. At the end of your explorations, you can descend from the wall via cable car once more or wander down by foot. Lunch today will be a special meal because it will be close to the Great Wall.
Tiananmen Square is a name almost synonymous with Beijing and China. It is said that this is the largest public square on earth. If it turns out it is not the biggest by size, it certainly might be by reputation. Numerous historical events have been held in his public arena due to its central location in the city and cultural significance. Today on your tour, you will be able to wander the grounds of Tiananmen Square as you wish. Surrounding the square you will see important buildings such as various museums and Chairman Mao's Mausoleum. There is also an ornate gate that will lead you to the Forbidden City.
The Forbidden City is a place of mystique even beyond its name. It was the home to 24 emperors during the Ming and Qing Dynasties and is understandably a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There are more than 900 buildings here that make up the entire Forbidden City including numerous and elaborate halls, courtyards, quarters, and gardens. You will also find many historic and cultural exhibits that take you further back in time as you imagine what life was like during the imperial ages.
After lunch at a local restaurant, get a look at typical Beijing life as a citizen on a tour of a hutong in the Xicheng District. A hutong is a very traditional residential area made up of winding corridors and single story homes that often have courtyards within. You will travel through this area by foot and rickshaw, then also visit the delightful Silver Ingot Bridge.
We will take you back to your point of departure for your journey back home.
