Brief Introduction:
The museum occupies a heritage building, which is once overlooked like a horserace course and was a britain style building. after restoration and expansion, the building maintained its new-classical style while the interior was remolded to fulfill the functions of an art museum. it becomes a modern, grandeur art palace. as one goes up to the grand lobby along steps, touching bronze horse heads made in 1930s, looking at carefully art masterpieces, you must have had an understanding of historical changes in shanghai and charm of culture. now, there are more than 8000 exhibits in the museum on the basis of which theoretical research and other researches concerning art museum are being carried out.
With a total floor area of more than 6,000 square meters, there are twelve exhibition halls with modern facilities on five floors showing modern and traditional fine art. temporary art shows are also organized regularly. many a well-equipped lecture halls, meeting-rooms, libraries, art databases and art workrooms offer a reliable guarantee for any academic or educational activities. besides, art bookstore, memorials shop, gallery coffeehouse also help create an artistic and recreational environment.
