Day 2Shanghai

Shanghai has many things to see, and the first place you will go to is Yuyuan Garden. It was originally a private garden when constructed in 1559 during the Ming Dynasty, noted for its traditional Chinese garden style. There are 6 general areas in this garden complex including Wanhua Chamber, Sansui Hall, Inner Garden, and more. The Yuyuan market nearby is a fine place to stop by for a snack or souvenirs.

On today’s special tour, you will have a chance to live like a local. Our "Be a Shanghainese" tour allows you to visit the Caoyang New Neighbourhood. Then, explore a local food market and end up making traditional dumplings with a local resident. This will be your lunch.

The last stop today is Jade Buddha Temple. This Buddhist temple was founded in 1882 and its bright citrus color beckons to worshippers and visitors of all backgrounds. The Chamber of Four Heavenly Kings, Grand Hall, and Jade Buddha Chamber are important parts of Jade Buddha Temple.

The Bund

The Bund

Today we first visit the Shanghai Museum which is the largest museum in all of China. There is an incredible array of things to see here from throughout Shanghai and the nation’s history, presented through exhibits that display bronze works, sculptures, ceramics, calligraphies, furniture, and much, much more from centuries long gone. Both quality and quantity are evident here. You will also be able to enjoy an audio guide to accompany you as you pass through the collections.

Take a stop at the Oriental Pearl TV Tower, one of the tallest of its kind on earth. It is special in appearance because of 2 immense spheres that create the "pearls" referenced in its name. The tower is located just across the Bund and completed in 1994 and the tallest construction in China until 2007 when the Shanghai World Financial Center eclipsed it with its completion.

After lunch at a local restaurant, you will be taken to train station for your journey back to Beijing.
