10:35-10:50

Sightseeing on a Boat

You will cruise past Tangjianong Lane and Laifeng Bridge to start todays’ trip. Admiring water town view on water will let you build your first impression of Xitang quickly and easily.

Yanyu Corridor and Yongning Bridge

The 1000-meter-long Yanyu Corridor is located near a river. There are over a hundred small shops in the roofed corridor. Both tourists and local people like these shops where they can buy snacks and handcrafts. When walk through the corridor, you will like Xitang more.

The Yongning Bridge, standing above the Xutang River, gives tourists the best vantage point for photo stop in Xitang. Hundreds of ancient houses are located on the south bank of the river. You can take a photo of all of them by your camera while standing on the Yongning Bridge.

Wood Carving Museum

Over 250 ancient wood carvings, including chairs, tables, window bars and sculptures, are collected in the museum. They were owned by rich merchants in Xitang. Most ancient houses in the South Yangtze River area were decorated by ornaments in the same style with these wood artworks.

Ni House, Shipi Lane and Tile Museum

Different from other ancient houses in Xitang, the Ni House was normal people’s residence, but not owned by rich merchants. However, the exquisite furniture in the house tells you that even a common people in Xitang cared about the quality of life very much.

The 68-meter-long Shipi Lane consists of 168 flagstones. Over 100 red lanterns are hanging on the wall of the narrow lane. That’s the most representative flavor of a water town.

The tile was an indispensable element for the roof of an ancient house in China. The exhibits in the Tile Museum are tiles made in different ancient dynasties and styles. The patterns on these tiles are animals, flowers or the scenes of ancient stories. The oldest tile has a history of over 1000 years.

Root Carving and Button Museums

Do you think roots of huge trees can be the material for carving? The 500 masterworks in the Root Carving Museum in Xitang give you an affirmative answer. Most roots used for carving already look like intriguing things such as animals, plants or buildings. Artists just paint and sleek them to make them even more attractive.

Almost every water towns are renowned for weaving silk clothes. Buttons are an indispensable factor for silk clothes. In the Button Museum, tourists can not only admire buttons from all over the world, but also can make buttons by themselves.
