The high-speed train service in Shanghai has continued to develop at an impressive pace. As one of the most advanced cities in China, Shanghai serves as a crucial hub for railway transportation in the southern region of the country.
Introducing the remarkable Fuxinghao high-speed train, it is now possible to reach most major Chinese cities from Shanghai in just half a day.
In fact, in some cases, train travel proves to be faster than flying when considering transportation time to airports. Both tourists and those traveling for business purposes have come to appreciate and rely on these high-speed train routes.
Truly enjoyed the visit of Shangai
The trip was honestly one of the most amazing we had in China and in the world as a whole. From getting to walk through the nightlife at Times Square, enjoying the delicious food at all the malls, and walking down the Bund at night and admiring the skyscrapers, we got to do it all. Specifically, we are very thankful for our guide Chris who gave us these spots to visit and spoke Mandarin for us, allowing us to truly enjoy our visit without all the hassle. We hope to visit again and will of-course be using this service again.
Qi from Shanghai
Qi, our private guide in Shanghai, was very good. She was very flexible to our needs, and changed a few things for us. Qi was charming and helpful and good to chat with. Also I’d like to acknowledge and recommend Vanessa from China Travel who worked with my wife to create a perfect 15 day China tour plan for us. Vanessa was very responsive and understood what we wanted. We had a private tour, and I know this can be expensive, but if you can afford it the private tour is well worth the money.
A Well Planned Trip to Shanghai
My wife and I took a 15 day tour of China; commencing 24/04/2025 and ending 08/05/2025 and of this, we spent 3 days in Shanghai; from 06/05/2025 to 08/05/2025. We thoroughly enjoyed our visits to the various historical sites in Shanghai of; The Bund, Yuyuan Garden, French Concession Region, Shanghai Tower and the one day shopping around the city; which were all planned exceptionally well. To our tour guide, Ms Kenny, thank you sincerely for looking after us really well and sharing your immense knowledge on the sites and locations around Shanghai. The facilities of the hotels and vehicles provided were also of high standard and we sincerely thank China Travel and Kenny for organizing and presenting us with fond memories China and Shanghai. Thank You.
Types of Trains in China
In China, trains are categorized by service and speed. Different letters indicate different types of the train.
- G-Trains (high-speed trains) and D-Trains (bullet trains) are the latest, fastest, and most comfortable in China, reaching speeds over 180 km/h. The operation of the Beijing-Shanghai High-Speed Trains reduces travel time between the two cities to just 5 hours.
- Z-Trains, T-Trains, and C-Trains, traveling at speeds between 120 km/h and 170 km/h, are express trains in China. They are among the most valuable for saving time and cost, offering a range of seating options.
- K-Trains are slower than Z-Trains and T-Trains, stopping at more stations and serving less well-known counties in China. Trains designated only by numbers are not recommended due to their slow speeds and poor equipment.

High-speed Train (G-, D-Trains) Speed > 180km/h

Express Train (Z-, T-, C- Trains) Speed > 120km/h

Fast Train (K-Train) Speed > 100km/h
How to Choose a Train Seat Type
In China, trains are categorized by service and speed. Different letters indicate different types of the train.
You are recommended to book a business-class seat or first-class seat on a short-distance train ride. For a long-distance and even over night train ride, a soft-sleeper or deluxe-sleeper is highly recommended for a comfortable journey.
- Business Class Seats: luxurious experience with maximum comfort and privacy.
- First Class Seats: more spacious and comfortable with added amenities.
- Second Class Seats: more affordable, with standard comforts.
- Soft Sleeper: Offers four berths per compartment for a more comfortable overnight journey.
- Hard Sleeper: Six berths per compartment, budget-friendly with basic comfort.

Business-class Seats
available on G and D trains feature leather sofas and adjustable backrests, akin to the first-class seats on airplanes.

First-class Seats
available on G, D, and C trains have foldable footrests, resembling the business-class seats found on airplanes.

Second-class Seats
available on G, D, and C trains also include foldable footrests, similar to the business-class seats on airplanes.
