First stop on your tour of Shanghai today is Yuyuan Garden, a classical garden constructed in the Ming Dynasty that exhibits all the traditional elements of its age. There are many beautiful rockeries, pavilions, corridors, and ponds spread over a total of 2 hectares. Further down the way is Jade Buddha Temple, still popular to this day with monks, worshippers, and visitors as it was almost 100 years ago. The main highlights of this temple are the 2 Buddha statues brought in from Burma via the sea many years ago, each carved from rare single blocks of white jade and decorated with precious stones. Taking a break by walking into Former French Concession Precinct after lunch. There are many architectures in the old French style as well as many charming cafes, restaurants, bars, and areas for nightlife. For a shopping experience different from that at Nanjing Road, you will enjoy a visit to Xintiandi. This area stuck between Shanghai's tall skyscrapers offers a distinctive brick facade shopping area in front of the sparkling modern zone's buildings.
